A $32,000 referendum

University of Wisconsin-Stout students' votes will decide whether participation in the United Council is still worth spending $32,000 a year out of tuition. On April 12, 2007, UW-Stout students voted yes on a referendum asking if the University of Wisconsin-Stout should become a member of the United Council of UW Students.

Howard Dean came to UW-Stout Wednesday, Oct. 1, to rally the campus for the Democratic presidential campaign. Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has campaigned in over 22 states in the past three months. Dean began by discussing what the jobs of the next president will be.

Hovlid Hall's makeover

In the next couple years, students on north campus will notice a huge change; Hovlid Hall will be completely renovated and updated, along with a new state-of-the-art dining facility to replace Tainter that will be attached to Hovlid Hall. In addition to that, construction plans include connecting Hovlid and Flemming Hall together with a central entrance.

Freshmen dorms bringing everyone closer...literally

Imagine you're a freshman, excited to go to college, meet new people and finally know what it's really like to be truly independent. You have already gone out to buy your precious dorm furniture, essentials and junk. You also bought other things that you already know won't fit into your dorm room anyways.

Health care, sustainability and chocolates

Tenth Senate District candidate discusses key campaign issues and tells students "Take action now." On Sept. 22 at Legacy Chocolates, located at 632 South Broadway, the Dunn County Democrats hosted "Meet and Greet Alison Page." The event gave Page, D-River Falls, an opportunity to speak with members of the Dunn County Democrats and answer questions about her campaign for the 10th Senate District.

Updating the "living room" of campus

The Memorial Student Center could be headed for a major makeover. On September 23, architects unveiled a $15 million project that would transform everything from the heating systems to the confining hallways. The concept design for the MSC, built in 1985, would update the building's cramped layout and dreary structure.

Robert Halligan was only 13 when he committed suicide on October 7, 2003. According to a Frontline Special, Robert's father later discovered that cyber bullying had greatly influenced his son's death. Almost five years later, students in the Ally Center of the University of Wisconsin-Stout heard and discussed Robert's story during the weekly event "Did You See That YouTube?" Its organizer, Jasmine Patzner, started this project with the goal of getting people together to open their minds and mouths in the consideration of overlooked issues.
