“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love, and be loved in return.” - Moulin Rouge.

These days, love and romance seem to be fleeting thoughts in our world that revolves around capital income, physical appearances and social prestige. Whatever happened to cute romance stories and happily-ever-afters? Where are all the fairytale stories of knights in shining armor sweeping beautiful maidens off their feet? In this generation, romance seems to be at an all time low. People of all walks of life are on the hunt for that special someone, but they have no idea where to even begin looking.

Here in our small college town of Menomonie, Wis., it is not always easy to find a great guy or a sweet girl to spend your days with. Some people would much rather take the free and easy route, and ditch the old ball and chain idea entirely. But there are many others just dying to find that one genuine person to spend time with.

Tennessee Williams once wrote, “When so many are lonely as seem to be lonely, it would be inexcusably selfish to be lonely alone.”

People can begin to diminish their loneliness and open the doors to their innermost emotions by bringing romance back into their lives. People should start stirring up those butterflies that have been cocooned up in their stomachs by taking a few chances. Try taking that cute girl from work out on a fun date. Go pick apples from one of the apple orchards around here or find a concert you would both enjoy… and pick her up! Bring romance back into your lives and enjoy everything it has to offer. Dating doesn’t have to be the serious lock-me-up, tie-me-down situation that so many tend to believe. Dating can be a fun, exciting experience for everyone. Have a crush on that smart tutor girl who’s helped you ace all those stats tests? Take her out for lunch one day as a thank you. Challenge the hunk in your gym class to a one-on-one session after class. There are so many opportunities out there for people looking for something more, so take a hold of those precious possibilities and put yourself out there! It’s really as easy as taking charge and pursuing what you want and so greatly deserve.

Take a chance, live for today and spread the love. These days, loneliness is overrated, romance is highly underrated and it’s time for that to change. Put yourself out there and give love a chance. If it doesn’t work out, then it doesn’t work out. There will be more opportunities. Enrich your life with all it has to offer. Keep romance alive.

I've never been a big fan of the whole knight in shining armor/princess deal, but I must say you totally have a point here. Where has the love gone? Nowadays, all people seem to want is a quick you-know-what every now and then. (Continued…)
